WHO WAS HORACE GREELEY?
- Newspaper Pioneer: Horace Greeley founded the famous newspaper "The New-York Tribune" in 1841. It became one of the most influential papers in the United States.
- Famous Slogan: Greeley is known for the phrase "Go West, young man," which encouraged Americans to move westward for new opportunities. This slogan inspired many people during the westward expansion of the United States to explore new places and try new things.
- Ran for President: In 1872, Greeley ran for President of the United States as a candidate for the Liberal Republican Party. Although he did not win, it's a fun part of his history.
- Advocate for Social Justice: Greeley supported various social causes, including women's rights, anti-slavery movements, and labor reforms. He used his newspaper to raise awareness about these important issues.
- Lifelong Learner: Greeley loved reading and learning new things. Even as a busy newspaper editor, he always found time to educate himself on various subjects.
